We leave Lima early in the morning and head south along the Pacific coast, stopping first at the beautiful Playa León Dormido.
This peaceful beach is full of surprises. We discover impressive rock formations, a natural sea cave, and hundreds of tiny crabs hiding in tunnels beneath the sand. Siri even manages to catch one so Christina can take a closer look — before we release it back into the sand.
After breakfast by the ocean with traditional Peruvian food — Lomo Saltado and Chicharrón de Pescado — we get back on the road.
But only a short time later, our journey takes a very different turn.
We are stopped by police on the Pan-American Highway. What starts as a normal traffic stop quickly becomes a much more serious situation. In the video, we explain exactly what happened and why we believe corruption was involved.
After this unexpected encounter, we continue south to Huaca La Centinela near Chincha Alta. This impressive archaeological site was once an important center of the Chincha civilization, long before the rise of the Inca Empire. We visit the small museum and explore the ancient adobe ruins under the intense desert sun.
Finally, we reach Ica, where we try — unsuccessfully — to find a SIM card.
And this is only the beginning. Our next adventures will take us to the incredible dunes of Huacachina and the mysterious Nazca Lines.
